Have fun in Daigo
Daigo-town is located in the Oku-kuji district, in the north-west of Ibaraki prefecture; surrounded by Yamizo Mountains and having Kuji River run through it. It’s an ideal “YAMAOKU (deep in the mountain)” resort which accommodates you to enjoy the beautiful scenery of the grand nature and be delighted with the local delicacies produced by making the best use of its geographical characteristics.
Fukuroda Falls
“Fukuroda Falls” is a symbol of district Fukuroda. Famous historical figures, such as Saigyo, a poet in Heian period, and Tokugawa Mitsukuni, a prominent feudal lord in early Edo period, also visited this fall. It is counted as one of the three most beautiful waterfalls in Japan. Each season it looks different as the shape and the colors of the surroundings transit; green in summer, red and gold in autumn, and when it’s frozen in winter, its spectacular view attracts a lot of tourists to visit. Okukuji Nantaisan
“Okukuji Nantaisan” is a popular hiking course. There are many strange rocks and bizarre stones along the course, and the view from the summit is magnificent. If the weather permits, you can even view Mt. Fuji in the distance.
Okukuji Chanosato Park
Daigo-town is the northernmost area of tea production in Japan. At “Okukuji Chanosato Park,” you can experience a traditional Japanese tea ceremony in the tea room, tea picking (only in summer), and cha-momi (a hand rolling of tea leaves). There is also a “Japanese Paper Doll Gallery” on the premises, and displaying the works of So Yamaoka, a Japanese paper doll artist, who spent his last years in Daigo. A thirty-minute drive from our ryokan.
Eigen-ji temple
Eigen-ji temple enshrines Benzaiten, one of the Okukuji Shichifukujin (seven deities of good luck), and is known for the beautiful colored maple leaves as it’s called “Momiji (Japanese maple tree) Temple.”
Hitachi Seaside Park
The vast land of Mihashirano-oka will turn totally blue in early summer with its baby blue-eyes. Many tourists visit the park to see the breath-taking view. The park also boasts a wide variety of flowers throughout the year, and has a large field (“Daisogen”) for children to run around, Water Stage, and an amusement park.

Ryujin Big Suspension Bridge
Ryujin Big Suspension Bridge runs over Ryujin Gorge, and you can walk over the 375m length of its walking path. You can totally relax in the nature but also get truly thrilled since this bridge is known as the No.1 bungee jumping spot (100m height) in Japan. Now, get ready to bungee jump into the natural valley!

Michi-no-eki Rest Area “Hitachi Fish Center”
Located very close to the Kujihama Fishing Port, Hitachi Fish Center boasts its variety of freshly-caught fish from the sea around. There are restaurants which allow you to eat the fresh seafood there right away, such as “Migatte-don” (You can select fish you would like to eat and make your own bowl). A seafood barbecue (Hama-yaki) restaurant is also quite popular.

Kairaku-en
Tokugawa Nariaki, a domain lord from Edo period, made this garden as a place “to share the pleasures with people” inspired from a saying within The Book of Mencius. It is counted as one of the three most beautiful traditional gardens in Japan. “The Plum Blossom Festival” from February to March attracts a lot of tourists, and the garden becomes filled with a nice fragrance from the blossom during the period.

Aqua World Oarai
Aqua World Oarai boasts to have the most species of sharks in Japan. Attractions like live performances of dolphins and California sea lions, feeding times, and backyard tours are quite popular in this aquarium.

Kasama Geijutsu-no-mori Park
Kasama-city is famous for its ceramic products, and this park was built under the theme of Ceramic art. Inside the park, there are Ibaraki Ceramic Art Museum and To-no-Mori Gallery where you can learn and appreciate both traditional and modern ceramic arts in Japan. At “Kasama Craft Hills” you can participate in pottery workshops to make your original ceramic works through basic techniques such as hand forming, throwing, painting on ceramics, etc. There is also a playground with a long slide for children.
